Patch 1 Revised!

Okay! Diehard Dungeon has been out for a day now and I have received a huge amount of feedback, mostly good, but a few new issues were uncovered, so here’s the revised patch 1 list:
List of changes:

  • All wall sprites have either been completely remade or improved
  • Companion chest sprites remade
  • Wall holes remade
  • Rage and Lucky bonuses now stack
  • Hand Cannon is removed on restart
  • Poison walk with key speed fixed
  • Fireproof ability collision with enemies fixed
  • Wall spike pressure pads centralised
  • Gold key scarcity fixed
  • Restart disabled if killed before companion chest acquired
  • Champion mode no longer requires a Xbox Live Gold account to unlock

  • Double-hit on wall switches (due to throwing knives ability) fixed
  • Container sprites improved
  • Trapdoor sprite remade
  • Entrance/exit sprites remade
  • Gold coin sprite remade (looks like a gold token now)
  • Various treasure chest slot screen icons remade
  • Various popups remade
  • Gold keys removed from playthrough if gold chest previously opened.
  • Various particle effects improved
  • ‘Sewer’ changed to ‘Chambers’
  • Music restart upon entering a new room fixed
  • Occasional lags/pauses due to sharing data over Live! fixed (saving will no longer happen until a game is finished)Some
  • Some containers are now pre-damaged. Your thumbs will thank me!
  • ‘Mayhem’ minigame arena changes each time you play

  1. This game is absolutely fabulous in every way. I only have 1 complaint: You don’t have a ‘Donate’ button on this site. I would love to give you more money to ensure you keep making games as amazing as Die Hard Dungeon. MAKE THE BUTTON!!! πŸ™‚

        Hey I just want to say I liked this game already, but as soon as I read(In-game mind you) that there were updates and patches coming I knew I had found another one of those special indie games. Which is why I looked up your website XD

    This game is incredible! i told all my xbox friends about it. ‘Vampire Rage’ WAS my favorite XBLIG until this de-throned it. (that also recieved a kickass update as well)… keep making games, tricktale. ur REALLY good @it! btw, is there a way to actually beat the dungeon? ive finished Champions Mode a few times but the dang dungeon master still lives! i’ll keep trying lol. also where can i get a shotgun like on title screen? 3rd maze ability? (have yet 2 get it)… thx 4 doing what u <3… peace

    • Thanks! πŸ™‚ I’m really glad you enjoy the game. I’m working on patch 1.2 at the moment, which adds lots of new content.

      You can definitely beat the dungeon. I’m not sure if anyone has found the dungeon master yet! I’ll give you a hint: you have to avoid something early on in the game. If nobody has found him by the time patch 1.2 is released, I will reveal the secret. πŸ™‚

      Champion mode will receive some new content in patch 1.2, as a reward for finishing it.

      The shotgun isn’t in the game, unfortunately. It was, at one stage, but I replaced it with the hand cannon. I may add it back in as a secret weapon though.

  6. First of all it’s great that tricktale finally has a new game! I liked “Vampire Rage” very much (although I was bad at it :-)), “PyroManic – Solo” was too hectic for me (didn’t purchased it back then). And I fear that Diehard Dungeon is genre-wise not “my game”, too. I simple do not like roguelikes that much. I bought DhD nevertheless to support you and because the pixel graphics are great (and the music in the Mayhem minigame!!!). The gameplay itself seems fine, too :-).

    What bothers me is that there is no highscores or such things for the main mode, no statistics e.g how often you tried/died, how long you lived or how much treasures you collected. If you die everything is forgotten forever.

    And it seems you can get stats upgrades ingame (I didn’t survived very long yet :-)), but there is no character screen or similar where you can look at your stats (besides your weapons and lifes)?

    Some pause save function may be helpful if you suddenly have to stop playing (like in Advance Wars: one slot which is always deleted/overwritten when you continue your game).

    I like the shooting mechanic, the meelee system seems sometimes a tiny bit bumpy when you change the direction of walking/attacking (but maybe it’s just too less practice). BTW: Are the controls – stopping/changing of direction – of the treasure chest minigame a bit limited in responsive to make it harder?

    Okay, that was much criticism, but with good intent :-D.

      A save system will be implemented for patch 1.2, as it’s been requested quite a few times.
      A stats system is also being worked on, but may have to wait until patch 1.3.
      Yes, the Trapdoor minigame’s controls are intentional, as you are moving around a virtual grid.
